My Travel Story
I am passionate about travel because with each trip you take, you learn something new about yourself. You're constantly evolving as a person when you travel. When you push your boundaries and go beyond your comfort zone, incredible things happen. You learn what you're truly able to accomplish, and it's wonderfully empowering.
Imagine being in a country where not many people speak English. That's already terrifying to begin with. But you manage to order some food, make your way around the destination, see some incredible sights and just go where your gut tells you. To me, that is the best feeling in the world. You have to put faith in yourself to accomplish everything that comes with travel including getting through the airports and flights, finding your way through the public transportation, and getting past the language barrier. We like to fear the unknown, but when we conquer the unknown and have the best time doing it, something changes in us. We gain confidence in ourselves. We learn that if you set your mind to something that you can do it. We realize all the magic that happens when we push ourselves and our limits. And at the end of the day, we can be proud of ourselves and cherish the memories we've made.
One of my greatest travel memories is when I visited an elephant sanctuary in Thailand and stayed for the night.
We spent the whole day with the elephants: feeding them, bathing them, hugging them, and making medicine for them to help with their digestion. It was absolutely magical. Our rustic accommodations for the night consisted of a little room in a small cabin which only had a thin mattress on the ground, bedding, and a mosquito net. We had a tiny window that we could open, but the bugs were so bad we decided to keep it closed even though there was no fan and no air conditioning. Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep that night! I finally decided to crawl out of bed at around 5AM and just watched my surroundings light up and the elephants roaming around nearby. The rain started that morning, and it just came down in buckets. We were supposed to be trekking to another camp to visit more elephants, but lucky for us they were able to drive us due to the weather. We got to the other camp and there was a baby elephant there! We spent the morning in the pouring rain, sliding around in the mud, hanging out with the gentle giants and living our best life! Even though we were absolutely exhausted, soaking wet, and muddy to an extent I can't even explain, it was easily one of the best experiences we've ever had. To be able to just love these creatures and feel the purest joy and positive energy coming from the elephants was a feeling that I will never forget. And we got one great story of our adventure at the elephant jungle sanctuary.
