My Travel Story
When I am travelling I like to go out and find the cafes or pubs preferred by the locals so I can meet and converse with the folks of the area. I am interested in listening to the traditional music of a region or country, hearing the folktales and learning about the customs. Eating the local cuisine is always interesting, even if at times very challenging. As an avid angler, I like to try spend a day fishing the local waters.
One of my greatest travel memories is a trip to Ireland. My wife and I stayed in Clare, my Mother's home county, and we attended the Willy Clancy Week in Miltown Malbay. This event is part music festival and part music summer school. As we weren't students or musicians, we concentrated on listening to jams and impromptu performances. It was a pleasure to listen to musicians of all ages. Whether young or old, amateur or professional, everyone played music. It is an annual event that I highly recommend as a "must see".
